The nurse helped Cassandra in her wheelchair, to prepare for her release. She had to sit on a pillow, because it was painful to sit on anything hard and her leg was in a cast. The nurse told her that her ride was here and after checking out at the front desk, she could leave. Cassandra was relieved to hear that, two and a half days in the hospital was enough to make any sane person go mad. She waited in her wheelchair for Amanda to come get her. She was facing the window when she heard the door open.

“Damn girl, you late, I thought you forgot about me.” Cassandra said, as she turned around and her uneven smile faded.

“I can never forget about you.” Michael stated, as he walked towards her.

“What are you doing here? Where’s Amanda?” Cassandra asked confused. Cassandra naturally assumed he was gone with his fiancée.

“I’m staying in town for a couple of weeks at our parent’s house. I wanna make sure you alright.” Michael said, as he walked closer to her. Cassandra couldn’t walk and if she tried, she still wouldn’t have been able to get away from Michael fast enough, so she was stuck. She was surprised to hear him say that he was staying at their parent’s house too. She wondered about his fiancée. Cassandra didn’t want to see Jessie’s face for the next two weeks.

“Where’s your fiancée? Is she staying at the house too?” Cassandra asked.

“No, she had to go back to Florida; it’s just me and you.” Michael said, hoping that made her feel better, because it surely made him feel good to say it.

“Oh, ok. Well, I’m ready when you are.” Cassandra said with a slight smile, which was better than the cold stare she gave him the day before. They left the hospital and headed home.
